42 Ride Update | North Route

By Mikey Wally

Day 13/55 – 50 miles
Michigan City, IN to Chicago, IL
Chicago!  I followed Hurricane’s wheel up the coast and in to the city to Cal’s bar.  We brought our bicycles inside and she was warmly welcomed.  I ate a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and mayo, with fries.  It was outstanding.

The traffic wasn’t as epic as NYC or as fast as LA.  The city is in a grid.  Streets are north or south of a river.  There’s a lake.  It feels very good.  But it was rainy and wet, and I don’t get to experience that in LA.  I felt like a driver in LA when it rains.  But it felt good.

I won the 250m freewheel 42 Below Gold Sprints with a time of 10.9 seconds.  Two other 42 ridazz, Kennedy, and Chris, respectively came in second and fourth.  I met some Chicago Fixed kids and they seemed a lot like some LA Fixed kids, whatever that means.

We went back to the hotel in downtown, had some hotel 4 cup brew coffee, swam, and sat in the sauna.  Got on my bike with Dom and went back to Wicker park.  Met up with some local ridazz and had some beers, biked to some free vodka party with terrible music and made fools of ourselves dancing.

It was a great day before my birthday celebration.

Day 14/55 – 70 miles (July 9 | birthday)
Chicago, IL to Somewhere South of CHI, IL
Long, flat, straight, boring.  KOA kampground sticky, lots of bugs.  Mom called and told me I was born at 4:20.  Woah.  The team got me cake.  I did a cake stand.  Thanks gaise!

Day 15/55 – 73 miles
Somewhere South of CHI, IL to Champagne, IL
Same as yesterday.
