Today, I got this email from Stephen Box (I added the links, yeah derivative projects). I’ll BCC you right now:
LA Cyclists Celebrate 2nd Annual “Bike Instead of Work” Day
LOS ANGELES – MAY 12-16, 2008 is celebrated around the country as Bike to Work Week and on Thursday, May 15, 2008, local cyclists will Converge on Hollywood & Western in a demonstration of cycling solidarity.
The Hollywood & Western Pit Stop is hosted by illuminateLA and will offer refreshments, swag and encouragement to cyclists from 6 am to 9 am and followed by a ride to City Hall.
There will also be entertainment and Hollywood Pro Bike Shop will be offering bicycle tune-ups, all of which will serve to prep the crowd for a ride downtown to “Bang the Drum” at City Hall where we will deliver the Cyclists’ Bill of Rights (pdf, digg).
This year, after City Hall we head to the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) at USC for a panel discussion on LA’s bike plan featuring Erik Knutzen of the Bike Writers Collective, Lynne Goldsmith of the Metro and…us, the cycling community!
It all starts at Hollywood & Western in the early hours, goes to City Hall and then to USC. Join us for a day of “Biking Instead of Working!”
Bike Instead of Work Day is intended to encourage the cycling community to keep on riding, to educate motorists about cyclists rights to the road and to urge our leaders to support the cycling community with appropriate enforcement.
“See you on the Streets!”
